Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I test my alarm system?
We recommend you test your system every month but please call us first so we can place it in test mode to alleviate false dispatches and potential fines from your responding authority.
How often should I clean the smoke detectors in my home?
NFPA & manufacturers recommend that smoke detectors be cleaned, tested and batteries replaced annually. If you need assistance with this, please contact us & we will be happy to help you.
Can I receive a discount on my property insurance for having a professionally installed and monitored alarm system?
Yes, you can receive a discount on your insurance, but you will need to check with your agent to see what you are eligible for. It would be our pleasure to provide them with an Alarm Certificate upon request. We’ll need the name, email address, and phone number of your agent.
Will my alarm system work if I change or cancel my phone lines?
Before cancelling or changing any of your phone lines/services check with us first to see what alternate technology we can offer to monitor your system & to also verify if your system is still connected to a phone line.
Do I need an alarm permit?
In most cases, yes. You should obtain & renew your alarm permit each year if the city or jurisdiction you're in requires one. Please visit our Alarm Permits page to find more information about your specific needs in your area. If you don’t see your city or county listed, we recommend visiting their website to find more information. It is the responsibility of the home/business owner to obtain and renew alarm permits. If you’re still not sure, please contact Vallance & we will be happy to assist you with finding the information you need.
I got a fine from the city for too many false alarm responses, how do I address this?
All false alarm fines are issued through the city where the alarm system is located and are the responsibility of the home/business owner (you). Many false alarms are caused by user error. If you feel you are having more false alarms than normal, please contact our office at (210) 659-6751 to discuss your account.
